in the end, i found the solution open the windows task manager, not the one on the google chrome, and end process of anything that says chrome. once these are closed, the annoying little window will not come up and you can uninstall chrome. i have got rid of it because it was very prone to malware and spyware and i was forever having to run scans and remove it. i know that it is not all dangerous, but it is very annoying and it is impossible to know excactly what all this malware is doing. i am running firefox at the moment which is not so fast and doesnt have many of the chrome features but on balance i think i am well rid of it. i dont like explorer either.
