Router And Dongle

I need to connect a Dlink DIR890L router wirelessly to a computer that has a non-functioning network card installed. The PC is an all-in-one so hardware replacement is not an option. Besides, the network device appears to be inbuilt on the motherboard. At present, everything to do with the network card has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to it. Driver updates are not an option.

What I'd like to know is what type of wireless dongle do I need to plug into a PC USB socket to get an internet connection. I've had a brief look on the web and found a Dlink DWA-192 device that looks like a tennis ball. Would this be suitable?

Do I specifically need a Dlink branded device or would any similar dongle (eg Netgear) work just as well given that they all use the 802.11 protocol? The thing that confuses me over this is that a DLink device is likely to come with software that would simplify its ability to communicate with the Dlink router. Would that be correct?

Any USB wireless adapter will be fine.

As Buenchico says, an USB dongle will do, but you are not limited to a wireless dongle, you can use an external network card, and simply plug in your existing cable.

Thank you both for your help. I went ahead and bought a TP-Link USB ethernet adapter in Maplin and discovered it was just the job.

The only problem I've found is that the key continues to broadcast even after I remove it from the PC as it's still connected wirelessly to the router, which is on 24 hours per day. The connection is open according to my computer and Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector so that anyone could hook into my router via the key. I've had to remove the key from the list on the wireless SSID page belonging to the router. The connection then disapeared from the list of available connections. I'll have to figure out how I can secure it. The supplied CD was not much use in this respect.
