(You can either go through the steps in the order suggested or, possibly simpler, go straight to Step 4)
If nothing there works, try a different app to open your photos with. (The one that comes with Windows 10 is pretty dire anyway). The might Irfanview deserves a place on everyone's computer anyway:

You've not said how you access your emails. If you're using the Windows 10 Mail app you might find that something in my Microsoft link above will help. (If not, as a workaround, try copying a link from an email and pasting it into your browser's address bar).
Otherwise, see if the problem still occurs when you access your email via your email provider's website. (If it does then it would appear to be a browser problem. rather than one with your email app. If it doesn't then it's clearly a fault with the Windows 10 Mail app; try something else, such as eM Client or Mailbird, instead).

Think I have found the problem - it is under the Settings tab in the start Menu - there no default apps set to open the files - f'in Windows update had banjaxed them and can't set them.
The photos and emails on the wife's half of the computer open fine and the hyperlinks in her emails are opening too which was another problem I had.
Got the new computer yesterday - just waiting on my cousin(programmer) to come down and network the 2 computers so I can copy what I need off the old one before I wipe it and put it back to windows 7 when it worked best.
It seems the o/s on my half of the computer is corrupt and hers not so corrupt.
Thanks for your help.
