It's like an ordinary 3 pin plug , ( used on electric appliances )with an opening where you insert one end of a removable USB cable and the other end to your phone .
I noticed earlier that there is a blue light inside the opening of the plug, ( where the USB cable plugs in) when it's connected to the mains .
just letting you know it,s plugged in. "Wall worts" consume power even when they are not charging anything, so unplugging them saves you a little bit of money.
I haven't got a light on mine at all, but the one in the car shows a blue light when I plug the phone in. Always check that it comes on so I know it's working.
I have a very similar plug and the blue light indicates surge protection is active, taking the spikes and protecting your phone or tablet from damage. A good sensible choice from her indoors!
