That message is consistent with the intended recipient's inbox being full. (Email providers often enforce a limit on how much mail a particular user can have stored on their server. For many people it's never likely to be a problem, as the amount of storage space is generally quite large, but people who regularly receive emails with large attachments need to remember to clear out their inbox from time to time).
So the problem almost certainly lies at 'the other end', meaning that there's nothing you can do about it yourself other than, say, phoning the friend and asking him to check his email settings (or simply getting him to create a new email account with a different provider).
