I like musicals generally, but I really can't take to this one and I haven't finished watching it.  I just had to switch it off.  Has anyone else seen it?

No I haven't, what is it you don't like?

I couldn't take to Les Mis or Westside Story.

I don't really know what I don;t like about it.  It's just grating on me.  I'm finding it irritating rather than entertaining.

Les Mis is the only stage show I've ever seen and left the theatre without a remnant of a tune in my head.  It wasn't until Susan Boyle sang 'I Dreamed a Dream' that the music (that particular bit) registered with me.

West Side Story I love - both on stage and on screen.  The new film is just lovely too.

Is it maybe the hype? I always feel really let down when I watched something that is so hyped up and I don't 'love' it?

Question Author

You could be right.  It's received such rave reviews but the reality for me falls far short.

I live not far from Hamilton and it's nothing to make a song and dance about.

I felt like that about Chicago, everyone I knew went to see it at the westend when I worked in London and went on and on about it. I walked out feeling really 'meh' about it.

Watched it a few years ago and loved it! I think at different times in your life it will mean different things to you.

Question Author

I haven't finished watching it a first time - I doubt very much it'll get a second chance.   I think I'll just live without it.

My daughter took me to Edinburgh to see Hamilton as a birthday present.  Left me cold I'm afraid.  Daugter was raving about it but I have seen much better over the years.  Wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

Is it the style of music Naomi? Without meaning to prejudge you, you don't strike me as a hiphop fan.

Give me the theatre for musicals, films just don't hack it for me.

They do tend to be the same old tripe in different clothes.

Question Author

Mozz, I'm not keen on the style of music but the whole thing seems a jumble to me.

Question Author

Canary, I agree musicals are generally better on stage.

Obviously misunderstood the OP.  It was the stage musical Hamilton that I saw in Edinburgh and didn't enjoy it at all.

Question Author

I understood that, maggiebee.  I don't think I would like it either.

Canary, while I agree, the Hamilton movie is just a film version of the stage show.
