hi when i tried signing into my msn it flashed up that a newer version was available so i downloaded that. Now it will not let me sign in...it says that "your firewall may be blocking messenger from connecting to the service - please review your firewall settings." Please help i do not know what a firewall is?!!? I haven't had this problem before!? HELP !!! thanks x

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Well if you haven't got a firewall that is a bit odd .. are you on Windows XP that sometimes has its own firewall, but I am a bit out of my depth here so probably don't know what I am talking about (whats that you say boffins .. get back to Body and Soul where you belong !!) If it was me .. I would uninstall both versions and start again. I had a problem when I installed the new version in that I still had the old version running too and it said I was already logged in and I had a hell of a job to get rid of it as it was running secretly and not showing as running at all. By the way .. if you do not know what a firewall is I would be a bit worried, perhaps someone with more knowledge can guide you through what to do about that.
If you don't know about your firewall, you're probably using XP. It's set to work automatically (unless you've set another one up, which you haven't), and to get to it go to Control Panel, then Security Center, and in that window click on Firewall (at the bottom). You should then see options, including exceptions. If MSN is listed there, make sure it has a check mark next to it, OK it, and the firewall will then allow it access (the earlier version was presumably allowed, but the newer one needs to be 'introduced' to the system).
