What's the counter measure?

We all know that police and military helicopters are fitted with heat detection equipment, which helps to find people who may be trying to hide in undergrowth and wooded areas.
The armed forces and security services must be aware that their people could be detected by these same devices whilst on active service, so, they must have counter measures for them.
So what are they, or it? Does anyone know?

Could wet suit hold they key as these keep heat inside the suit and coldness outside the suit, so really there insulate your body heat from the outside world.
Hmm i think the theorys there but is the practical. The only other answer i can give is lead lots and lots of lead, or they could walk around with a fire extinguisher.

I think you're all wrong!
What the detector is seeing is a specific band of emissions in the infrared.
Tin foil wouldn't stop that, as the foil would be heated by the body and so would register on the detector. Ditto space suits and wetsuits.
The counter measure would be something that emitted absolutely nothing in the spectrum the detector is looking at IE something as cold as the surrounding environment. All you'd need was an absolutely perfect insulator, with the body inside kept warm, but no warmth emitted. So very thick, very efficient artic-type gear would (possibly) work. In fact, on the police videos, you do sometimes see people almost 'disappear', with only their faces showing. I guess they are wearing thick coats.
The face and breath would be a tricky problem to solve though.

The Armed Forces do not have any method of counter measuring infrared for soldiers body heat. What happens in any modern war or conflict is that the initial stage is to acheive air superiority before sending in ground troops. If the enemy is prevented from flying then infrared targeting of troops is not an issue.
simeon is right, it is an even bigger problem with tanks etc where the trick is to move the apparent heat emission so it looks like a van rather than a tank.
The problem is if you (ie a person) does not emit infrared light (heat) then you will 'cook' as the human body need to loose heat. The real trick would be to shift the emission to a longer/shorter wavelength - but then all they will do is look for that signature......
