i have recently set up sky broadband
how can i get my laptop to be wireless i have seen some types of plug in usb adaptors called bluetooth or network adaptors
are these what i need

First you'll need a wireless router -- does Sky supply this? (I don't know.)

Then you'll need a card like this:

That assumes that your laptop doesn't already have wireless capability (most made in the past year or so tend to already). Also, that's a cardbus device, not for USB: they're better for this sort of thing.
Does the wireless card have to fitted by someone or can you just put it in yourself?
I was looking at the USB plug in adapters but my friend has the netgear one and for some reason it disables the ability to switch between user accounts on windows

learntojive: yes, you just slot it in.

also, it shouldn't disable that. however, switching is something you should try and not do much anyway unless you really have to.
