Txt Speak
Why the need? ok, I understand that it is needed whilst texting as space and time is at a premium, blah blah blah.
But why on an internet forum ~ I think it is incredibly lazy. Apparently people actually talk like this too!

The below is cut from an answer by enigma on the Nipples question thread. Could this be true wee-angel??
"You are an imposter wee angel !!! Wee angel is my sister and you are NOT HER !!! You sound like a nasty little illiterate for a start so stop insulting people under my sister's user name. I think i've sussed who you are and you are so venomous. You have attacked my sister already on this site but you will find that I am not a young girl , I don't like my family getting upset and i'm a bigger girl than my sister. Oh and incidentally , my sister has now turned 18 and is most definitely NOT at school. You really should do your homework. "

Surely you mean txt spk?!
I hate it too. We have a fantastically rich language which is rapidly going to the dogs. I can only blame today's educational system. In English classes there is far more emphasis on content and ideas than actual linguistic ability. It's hardly surprising that there are increasing problems with with basic reading and writing.
I personally hate all the lol, rofl, tia abbreviations too.

Forgive me Pippa for intruding on your post here but I have been called the most disgusting names on here tonight by 'two' ABers who have contradicted themselves. Apparently 'Wee Angel' and her 'brother' MR Nose are in the same house sitting beside each other but Wee angel mentions in a later post that he is at home and she is at a sleepover. She is 17 and he is apparently 5 years her junior - which is why apparently he used the most disgusting , insulting language on me. Hmm. So he's 12 and up at nearly 1 am posting filth. Erm , shouldn't he have school tomorrow ? Maybe i've got it all wrong but how many 12 year olds are up typing away at 1 am ? It's interesting how both wee angel and Mr Nose have cut and pasted their answers from the other thread onto this one. I am not a liar , nor am I a bully. In fact , I abhor bullies. My sister is Wee Angel on this site and has been for some time now - or at least she posted until she was hounded off this site by someone old enough to know better. Now she reads more than she posts and I just find it odd that someone else has a similar user name. Isn't that against Site Rules ? I jokingly said to Mr Nose when he said that his sister was sitting by his side and that they were both typing , something along the lines of "Lol @ Mr Nose. Watch you don't catch your nose on the way out. It must be growing" because I thought that his comment was tongue in cheek. Apparently not and that seems to warrant being called a bleeping bleep slag bleep etc etc. Oh and isn't the correct speeling Jezabel , not Jessabell ? That's the cleaned up printable version of what I was called.
In answer to your original question and my sincere apologies for deviating for a moment , I don't like text speak at all. It's lazy communication. Still , anything which you can read and is not covered in asterisks is a bonus !

I have to agree with drschauble that I find the lol, pmsl, rofl and tia just as irksome, often irritating. And dont get me started on the :o) brigade.
SMS speak, or text messaging speak is just natural progression, it is not a teenage thing. Of course it is understandable to skimp when someone is clicking through the numbers on a mobile to find the letter they need. But equally it is sad that when someone has the full qwertyuiop in front of them that there natural tendency is to seek out the bits that save less than a nanosecond to type.
Its not really dumbing down, just perhaps a bit of laziness, but then all those who frequently use the terms referred to in my first sentence above are just as guilty of tardiness. Perhaps the reason ppl use txt spk on an internet forum is because they have lost, or are losing, the ability to spell or type long words.
Oh, and another thing that gets on my pimples, are those who feel the need to do a Sherlock on another ABer. Since ancient times it is written, the more you stamp on a turd, the further it spreads.
