if somebody is selling an item on ebay and they say ..... no bids if feedback under 10 or no bids from overseas buyers???

why is that?? as someone is winning an item i have got on ebay they have got no feedback and they are from estonia?

A common con on ebay is that the buyer tries to pay with a bank cheque for a greater amount than the item they are buying

(they come up with some story along the lines of its a bank error to late to sort out etc).

They then say, cash the cheque and you give me the difference.....you give them the item and the money and then a week or so later you find out that the bank cheque is a dud.

Quite often its nigerian buyers, but wouldn't doubt that eastern europe has its fair share of fraudsters.

My BF sold a motorbike on ebay to a guy from poland, the guy arranged his own collection too. To start with we arranged to meet him at a service station not far from where we lived, showing him the documentation for the motorbike. He bought with cash with him and as i am wary of overseas buyers, the polish guy came with us to our bank to hand over the cash which was counted/checked by the cashier and straight into our account, no problem. From there we took him to our house where he collected the motorbike. Before he came over we emailed him with instructions on how we wanted to go about exchanging cash/documents (as above) and he was more than happy with, which gave us more confidence that this was a genuine buyer. It was a smooth transaction and if we were to sell to overseas buyer again, we would go along the same route. Try it yourself, don't meet at your house to start with make it a main central meeting point and make sure you accept cash in pounds sterling which is paid directly into your bank - you don't need to explain your reasoning to him, just say this is your terms of conditions & sale, if he questions it or doesn't want to do it your way... pull out of the sale. As you did not state in your original listing that you would not accept bids from overseas or ' 0 feedbacks' you may get into trouble for canceling their bid without a valid reason

As others have said, just make sure you 100% have the cash in your possession before you release the van. If the bid turns out to be a false one and they do not pay, you will be able to open a dispute and re-list the item for free. You are in a position of power here, there is danger of being ripped off if you are cautious.

If it turns out the bid is fake and you need to re-list, make sure you state your terms with regards to feedback and avoid getting into any bother for canceling bids.

i have since cancelled the bid, and i have made it clear that i had stated "no bids if your feedback is less than 10" on the original description.

Sorry my mistake, I assumed because you asked a question about why people put that statement about feedback, that you wouldnt have done so yourself.

i put it on because a lot of others have said it, but when this bid came from estonia it sent my gut feeling sky high with "CON".
