Does anyone at all have any experience or knowledge of internet dongle? I'm thinking of getting one and don't know where to begin, good idea or bad idea?

There is no coverage there so I got my money back. But I still very much like the idea - if I were out and about a lot I would definitely have one.
Three freiends of my have the Vodafone - they are business people so find it very useful. Two are very pleased - quicker than dial up, slower than home broadband. The third finds it very slow but hasn't had it long and has only used it in one location.
I bought the 3 pay as you go. Sadly it didn't work for me - so check the coverage of where you are likely to be using it before you buy.

I've used one of the vodafone 3g ones and found it to be very good and with speeds of about 1.7mbs as long as you are in a 3g covered area, if not they drop down to 2g which is a little slower than an old style dial up.
the one I used was a flat rate 25 a month with a 2gb download limit, which for most people will be quite adequate.
Check the website of whichever provider you are thinking of going with and they will have maps showing the coverage areas, as long as you are inside one no problems

From being a devonian I have to say that I work around the combe martin region and generally any mobile cover their has A LOT to be desired!!! as regards to the dongle ive been on the vodafone contract at 15 per month for 3gb download and its fantastic. Their has only been 1 occasion that ive had to drop to 2g but generally its been great. and also your tied to the dongle as aposed to being tied to a fix landline. Good luck anyhow
