peculiar money going out of account

on my halifax account i paid in 170 in cash and its now gone down to 164. only things i have set up is play.com, ebay, paypal and the halifax secure service and no one else knows the account details, so where has it gone?

Can you not use internet banking or telephone banking to find out what recent transactions there have been? Is there a Halifax charge of �6 a month on your account?

its an easycash account so should be free

Is this a new account? If the only ever transacton wa sthe �170 deposit then it looks odd. But if you have hd various transactions it could be that the �164 figure is a cleared/available balance figure which may change to �170 as credits clear or as imminent payment goes out

Can you see an online statement which shows all the transactions

sorry Adam, I'm still not sure what all your figures mean. I think you are saying you had a nil balance on 11 August then you paid in �170 cash on the 12 August. I think you have also paid in cheques for �50 and �110 which won't clear until 18 august. The statement shows your balance will be �330 once the two cheques clear.
So if you started with a nil balance your balance now should be �170. this will become �330 on 18 August.
So:
(a) is this analysis correct
(b) who has said the balance is �164
(c) was it truly a nil balance at 1 August - were there any transactions that happened before the 11 August which could have resulted in charges or could be feeding through.

yes you are correct. when i check my avaialble balance online it tells me i have �164. i havent used the debit card or bought anything to incurr charges.
unless, i've signed upto the halifax paper free service and halifax secure, so i wonder whether they charge you for those?

Why don't you just get a statement? That will tell you what money had gone in and out.

if not, they have now.

think i know where its gone, i did sign up for the halifax paper-free and secure service, so halifax have probably charged a one off fee for them. i know its gone down a tener as i bought a top up earlier, so nothing else seems as if its gone out

You really need to ask your bank or check your statement.

This is quite common. I think you will find that people like Play.com and the like take a token amount from your account to check that the account is active. If you phone the Halifax, they should be able to put your miond at rest.

You will get the money back.
