Question Author
it's IE and no numbers Ethel but I have the same prog' on my laptop but no skype icon only the google home icon
and to the numpty I'm glad you got rid of your icon but the question was how
is there a little down arrow right next to the icon?

if so click on the down-arrow and select "Remove Skype add-on for IE"
Sorry, I have no idea. I got rid of the one with numbers in, which just made every number on a webpage ringable, but I haven't seen the icon you are having problems with

OK think you have two options,

Or click on the tools menu select manage add-ons, then enable or disable add-ons, find skype in the list of add-ons click on it and then select disable just below the list and click OK.

If that doesn't work you may have to uninstall skype and reinstall it but make sure you click on options during the install and click "disable IE add on"
