I'm sure all you supertechies on here have found this already, but mere mortals like myself might be interested in this Firefox add-on. After it is installed, if you click on a pdf file you are given the option to download, open as a pdf, read as HTML, bypass (which allows the standard Firefox action) or cancel. It has a number of customisable options.

From the same company you can also get PrimoPDF, a totally free pdf generator, which I use every day.
