About a year ago I created a facebook account using my email address. However I never used it and my husband wanted one so I changed the email address on the account to my husbands email address.

Now I am thinking of setting up my own account but when I try to do it it says "There is an existing account asssociated with this email address".

Why is this?

Because ... you "created a facebook account using my email address".

The email address has already been used. If you already have an account there, will it let you click on something like "forgot password"

Thanks squarebear but I think ellieee has hit the nail on the head. So there is nothing I can do to be able to use my email account for facebook?
I've not tried it, but if you click on account in the top right in facebook then select account settings and then click on the email link you can remove any emails associated with that account (apart from the one set as a contact email)

Try removing the original address and see if it lets you sign up again with it.

Oh - that worked a treat Chuck.

One more question - Does it automatically set me at the highest privacy setting (ie to make sure that the world and his wife don't see my details) or will I need to set that up?
As far as I know it pretty much sets you with the lowest privacy settings as standard....

(It did when I set my account up, but that was a few years back)
