So Angry...

On Saturday I was feeling really ill and to top it off I had no broadband connection. Rang BT who said it would be on in an hour and he'd ring me back to make sure. Range 3 hours later to be told yes there was a local problem and it would take a further 6 hours to get fixed. Cursing loudly to myself I slammed the phone down.
So on Sunday I turn on the computer and... yep, you got it, no internet connection. Rang BT who said that there was "still a problem in your area." That's odd then I replied cos my neighbour also uses BT and she got connection.
Eventually after typing in 192.1681. and some more numbers which I've now scribbled over the broadband connect was back!
Brilliant I siad to the youg girl on the phone. So it's purely coincidence that there is a problem with the broadband connection in my area but immediately after typing in these numbers it's now working! Err yes, she replied. Must be a coincidence. Yeah like Sh*t! Bloody BT.....
Now I've got that off my chest I feel better. But why do these people have to lie to you over and over again?

Was there a problem with 192. 168. something ?
Because that's a "private" network address - ie one that's not visible on the internet - it's your kit not theirs.
90% of us will have a router with the address 192.168.1.1

In reply to redman41 I have to say BT has done extraordinarily well. I was Tiscalli before BT and every almost other day I was getting problems. In the end, after writng to head office I was eventually awarded an entires year free of payment. All went well no problems. But surprise surpise, on the 13th month, I was cut off. I changed to BT, and that was 4 years ago. Yes they are expensive but Saturday was the only trouble I have had with them. But when your broadband is disconnected it feels like you are deaf, dumb and blind. I can't function without my computer - which explains why I got so grumpy the other day.
Possibly it depends on the set up and what actually happened.
Problem is there's a bit of a grey area between the wall socket and your computer. You own that equipment and it's your responsibility but maybe you were sold it with a maintenance contract - I don't know.
In point of fact few people are able to diagnose problems with that equipment and so ISPs often find themselves having to sort out customers equipment which is strictly speaking not their problem but if they want happy customers who continue to use their service they have to do it.

Wildwood & jake-the-peg: If I restarted the router once I must of restarted it about 30 times! Honestly, sometimes leaving as long 20 minutes before restarting. Any ideas what could of suddenly of made that happen guys? When I turned it off the previos day it was perfect, and yes I did turn it off properly not just turn it off at the mains...though I have been known to do this I admit.
