Internet explorer has stopped working

i have a Dell Laptop, and I installed AVG11 update and it has corrupted my Internet. The internet explorer will not open and email will not open. Also the avg will not open. I have gone to my computer and deleted all the AVG files and I have done. I went to RUN and did sfc /scannow and it now says: Insert your window xp service pack 3 disc now, well I havent got one... I have download it from Microsoft will that work? what else can I do HELP!!!

Try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. (Press F8 during the boot process). Then run System Restore (accessed from Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore) to take your laptop's registry back to the first available date prior to your AVG 11 update.

Hithanks, tried that, system restore opens but the calendar part is blank so I can't pick a date...

Had the same problem with Windows 7 so i god rid of Avg restored my computer & installed a different internet security. no problems now
