I have suddenly been advised by BT that I have used 11 gigabytes this last month and for the past 3 years have used 3 gigabytes. No other person uses my computer and although I have repeatly asked for BT to help find about the sudden high usage they have ignored me. Can someone help please.

change your broad band supplier they 'll take notice then
Do you have a wireless router and is it secure? Someone could be using your connection to download large files.

many thanks to both of you. Yes TTG I do have a wireless router but it has been checked and is secure . I have now complained to Ofcom and they have promised to look into the matter.
Have you maybe had a friend or relative staying with you who may have downloaded a film or two (assuming it was not you) ?

11Gb is only about 2 or 3 films so it is not much.

But as others have said, the most likely thing is someone else piggy backing on your wi fi.
Have you actually been billed extra for the extra usage? If not I don't see why ofcom would care.

Also there has been quite a few largeish windows updates recently.
i'm on orange £10 a month no download limit and 20mdb speed which i am pulling using speed test .net
cant fault orange even though got a s**t name
Ofcom? lol

Checked your computer for adware and viruses lately?
Yes .. .a few 10Gg updates : )
I complained to Orange about crap service a couple of years ago ... and told them they should be renamed .. to Lemon.
First thing I would do is change your router wi-fi password then at least if it is the same next month it is something you are doing rather than somebody else (unless you tell someone your password)

On your PC you could have a look through the history of your browser and see if there is anything funny in there e.g. film sites, download sites etc...
