Connecting a lap-top to TV

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32V5810 TV which has a PC IN socket, and although I have connected my lap-top to this port I fail to get a picture.
What am I doing wrong please?
My Lap-Top has the following connections.
TV out port (S-Video)
External Monitor Port VGA
USB Port
My TV has the following connections.
2 Scart connectors
Component In, Audio input (phono jacks0
HDMI In, 1, 2, 3, 4
AV3 Video input (phono jack)
AV3 Audio input (phono jack)
PC in (minijack) PC input (D-sub 15 pin)
USB port
What am I doing wrong please?

You have to switch on the VGA port on the laptop. which will be done by pressing the FN key and another key.
Look along the top F keys on the laptop for one that has something that looks like two monitors, or says LCD/CRT on it and it will probably be that. if you can't find it post the make and model of the laptop.

You'll need a standard VGA cable for the video and a 3.5mm jack to 2 times RCA(phono) for the audio. and then you'd need to press FN and F3 to switch the external display on.
FN + F3 toggles the display between internal display only, both displays, external display only and then back to internal only
the leads are (these are 5metre ones, if you don't need that long then shorter ones may be cheaper)
