Can one get CD's that will take 30Gb of memory (used as a backup)?

No. 700MB is the limit for CDs.

4.7GB is the limit for DVDs
8.4GB for dual layer DVDs (if your drive supports them)
25GB for Blu rays
50GB for dual layer Blu rays.
Sorry, typo....8.5GB for dual layer DVDs (not that it makes much difference)

The figures also don't take into account a few factors that reduce the usable size by a small amount.

Just buy TWO external (removable) HDs. never trust a backup on one device.
