How can I get alerted on my land line to the fact I have a message on voicemail? I have never asked for this facility and am missing loads of messages from disgruntled colleagues and family because I don't know they have left a message, unless I have to ring out, when there is a broken ringtone. Should I ring a number every time I come off the phone, in case I have had another call? And what is it?? I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you.

If you are using the BT 1571 system, just pick up the phone when you get in, if you hear the broken dial tone dial 1571 if not just put the phone down. If someone leaves a message while you are talking on the phone your phone should ring a few seconds later telling you that you have a new message. Very easy not to miss messages takes a couple of seconds

Thanks ubasses but my phone never rings, hence all the missed calls. Should I set it to something or complain to BT?
you could always ask the News of the World....sorry
Copied this from the BT site see if it works, can't remember how we set ours up it was so long ago.
