i cannot open programs on my laptop

I have a toshiba satellite pro laptop and when i open every program it comes up with "Open with".
How do i get rid of this so that the programs will open as normal?

any help would be much appreciated :)

Are you meaning opening Applications e.g. Word, Excel, Internet Explorer or do you mean trying to open existing documents e.g. a letter or a spreadsheet?

Download Malwarebytes (if not already installed) and do a FULL scan.
Can you open Windows explorer?

I think you may be infected.

The Open With menu would normally appear when you are right-clicking .

1) Have you re-started the PC
2) If you click once on the application icon so it's highlighted then press Enter, does it open the application or give the same message?

i can get on to the internet explorer but nothing else.

i have tried doing what it says on microsoft support page but when i get to step 4 it says "cannot import regedit.com:error opening file.there may be a disk or file system error"

i have tried highlighting the icon and pressing enter and it still comes up with the "open with"

Just do what I said mate .. or you'll be here all night ; )

You can get an open with error with programs.
Usually caused by virus, malware or OS fiddling.

If you have had an infection of late there is a free program called Virus Effect Remover which when you run the program it will repair your registry and remove any remants of the infection. www.viruseffectremover.com I have used it many times with good results

Use MS Security Essentials (if genuine Windows copy)
