Facebook Friends

When I open Facebook there is now a new list on the right hand side of my friends, some of which have a green dot next to them. Does this mean that the whole list is online when I am, or just the ones with the green dot ?

Sorry forgot to say --- sometimes the list is shorter, that's why I wondered !

Oh right, then I'm not sure why that is. Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they are all online, but only green dots are open to chat?
