HSBC Online Banking
9 Answers
I always use my debit card for shopping etc, but when i log into my online banking it always takes a few days for the transaction to appear on my statement.
I did ring and ask them about this, but they said it depends on when the shop.
Thing is, is it happens with every shop I use it in.
When I used to be with NatWest the transaction would show on my online statement within a few hours.
I would have thought a large bank like HSBC but have the most upto date system.
Does anyone know why this is the case? and to other HSBC customers have the same issue?

For example, you have £100 in your HSBC account and you spend £20 on your debit card, the transaction will not appear on your statement but it will show your available balance as £80.
All HSBC debit card payments are processed through an payment authorisation system. This system helps to combat fraudulent transactions by doing extra checks before the money eventually is released from the bank account and if necessary a block may be placed on the account. Nowadays Pin and chip transactions don't need all the extra checks, however internet payments do.
