FireFox 6 disadvantages

I have just installed firefox 6, I now seem to have lost my spell checker, a number of toolbars, and also the ability to clck on a word while holding down the Ait key, which tells one all about that particular word as well as giving one a number of alternative words if it is incorrectly spelt.

I also had difficulty with having lost the main tool bar, spell checker.etc. Unfortunately, I can't recall how I then re-established them: except to say that I persevered and I think used the following as my start point:-

A Spell checker is a default part of all versions of firefox, you just have to ensure you have a dictionary installed and any mispelt words are underlined in red as you type (like dictionary is up there ^ for me as I can't type :)) then all you do is right click on the underlines words and it suggests what the correct word might be.

And to be honest, from my point of view all toolbars are a waste of time and invariably give no extra useful functions that can't be done another way and they take up valuable screen space.

Thank you for that Chuck but I did read that Firefox 6 did not support a spellchecker.

At the moment I have reverted back to Firefox 3.6.21 exe.

I now have all those things that disappeared with version 6.

Having clicked the link which I have given, it's a matter of scrolling through the listed items and selecting any which you feel could apply to your position.That's the way I went about things. I may even have selected 'Default' settings for some items.

Sorry if I am not being of any real help. The truth is that I wanted everything to appear on my screen as it originally was and, after a struggle, I got there eventually. Perhaps not identical to what it was with Firefox5 but I am now happy with the position which prevails; until the next Firefox change which is due within a few months.( Firefox7 to be followed shortly thereafter by No8.)

It most certainly does. I suspect that you were relying on the Google Toolbar Spell Checker before. But it's completely redundant in Firefox.

Having said that, I think there is something seriously wrong with Mozilla's attitude to upgrades and addons.

If the big seeling point of FF and TB is the ability to run addons - what is the point in bringing out updates that break them?

The recent upgrades have broken addons that are essential to the way I run my business. For all their faults, it's pretty unusual for Microsoft to pull a stunt like that.

The majority of addons and extensions are third party and the developers don't always keep their addons updated.
I don't think it is fair to lay the blame entirely with Mozilla.

i was upgraded to 6.1 it crashed three times in 2 hours went back to 6.0 no problems.

hc4361, my point is that there must be something seriously wrong with the development model when every minor change to the core program requires that almost every addon needs to be updated.

i have used firefox for a few months and i use realplayer to save youtube videos to my computer.
after allowing firefox to upgrade i can no longer use real player to save videos

any suggestions would be most welcome

Good news - firefox 7 is due out on Sept 27th.

Major releases are appearing far too often imho, should be maybe every 6 months, not every couple of months.
