firefox cookie removal

I'm tired of all the targeted ads I'm seeing on AB for restaurants etc in my area. If I clear all my cookies in firefox, can I be sure that it won't affect my history files ( I want to retain the details of sites I've visited).
I take it my cookies will build up again as soon as I start browsing the web? Are there any disadvantages to removal of all cookies as far as my browsing is concerned?

Did you know you can modify Firefox to blank all the rubbish displayed? I have been using the mod for two years, and hardly ever see anything on the site .. just the required content.

The best way is to carry out a mod to the user file .. this is the same as modifying the hosts file in Windows for Internet Explorer. It will automatically block any known ad site (or bad site) from displaying content .. therefore displaying many affected pages quicker.
For Firefox users .. Go to this page ..

Download to desktop ChromEdit Plus version 2.9.0
Open Addons in Firefox and Extensions ..
Open Install .. select xpi file you downloaded ... or DRAG the xpi file onto the Add0ns/Extensions window and let it install.
When done, open Options from ChromEdit Plus addon
Open the Chrome Folder tab.
R Click on UserContent.css and 'open with' Notepad
Seperately ... Go to this web page and highlight EVERY part of the text (top to bottom .. and copy.

Paste into the open notepad window so you see all the text appear
Click on File .. Save and close the text file and close addon and Extensions.
Reboot Firefox ...
and you will nver see most annoying ads in Firefox again.

To reverse, just open the User file again and delete all the contents/save.
The reason for adding the Chromedit is ease of modification to Firefox, as other things can be modded!

Ad-Block can cause many slowdowns itself by the way it operates.
A Host file mod will always be faster.

Use tis and add the button to the browser Bar in the settings/custom layout.

Just use AdBlock Plus - some people must be unlucky to have any noticeable slowdowns, I certainly haven't.

I've just tried it and I didn't notice any difference in page loading time but there were various blank areas in these pages which aren't there with AdBlock. So it's back to that for me.

If you want to collect point on purchases (such as Nectar) you will need to allow their cookies, otherwise they won't know what purchases you have made so you won't get the points.
