Should I switch off the router overnight? Will it use a lot of electricity if I leave it on overnight? Would it damage it if I switched it off for periods of time every day?

Most people never turn them off, I dont.
Uses only a minute amount of electricity. I always leave mine on too, mainly lazyness.
How about the extention `6 socket` leads that have a red on/off light? Does the red light use much, if any?

A typical red neon bulb uses 1mA of current. That means its power consumption (including that of the series resistor also present) across a 240V supply is 0.0001 x 240, or 0.024W.
Since electricity in the Uk costs about 10p per unit, or kWh, you will get about 40,000 hours of use of the neon for 1 unit costing 10p.
There are about 8700hrs in a whole year, so 4 years for 10p.
I wouldn't get excited over it.
Flippin heck, Builder, that`s what I call an reply. How long did it take to work that one out?

Judging by the fact that he talks about neon bulbs, I'd guess about 20 or 30 years. :-)
Noticed that you're apparently unable (or uncapable) of faulting the answer, though, Rojash, merely preferring to nit-pick at the terminology.
Hey buidersmate, I did put a little smiley at the end to indicate that I was joking, I didn't mean to offend. :-(
Fellas ............ how's this for mis-reading a question?

As a humble builder, I thought Don was referring to a joiner's router
