Gravatar help please

I'm trying to load a bitmap image from my hard drive into Gravatar and no matter how I size it when loaded into Gravatar it chops the top and bottom off and I can't change it. The cropping squares also don't do anything, just change to a no entry sign. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Perhaps you need to upload it to photobucket first, resize it square then download it to your drive then try again? Having said that I've been trying to change my avatar all weekend with no joy at all from Gravatar, it just stays the same whatever I do.

Thanks D9, issue is I've never used photobucket! I've not had this problem before, the avatar I've got at the moment I cropped down from a bigger picture. Not sure what's going wrong this time.

I'm sure, when I switched to Google Chrome, it just fixed itself. If I remember correctly, I think I was using Internet Explorer, and some people have problems with that and Gravatar. Could have been Firefox, I honestly can't remember. Try a different browser and see if that works. I had exactly the same thing though, it wouldn't allow me to crop anything and I had that "no entry" sign.

hey flip, I've just seen DT say on another thread that you can't change your avatar at the moment, he must know something - unfortunately because of the subject matter of the thread I don't think I can jump in and ask him :-)

I think he's refering to the fact that for some reason Gravatar doesn't seem to be allowing avatars to be changed at the moment.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday, but I definitely think your problem with not being able to crop, is a different issue. What internet browser are you using?

IE7, I was only trying to join in with the remembrance avatars, by the time it's sorted it won't be worth it!

I have tried a number of times to change mine away from my Halloween one, got a very nice sheep that Moonie would attack..... AB just doesnt seem to picking them up. I have even tried clearing my cache, thinking that was bunged up.

Just remembered how I solved the issue, and it was changing to Google Chrome. Here's an email from Gravatar..

"Hi,

Are you using Internet Explorer by any chance? We've had a few people report that they are having troubles cropping images with Internet Explorer and we're looking into it. In the meantime, can you please try a different browser, such as Firefox, Safari or Chrome; they all seem to work fine.

IE9 here but then folk with Chrome and Firefox have had issues so it is between Gravatar and Ed somewhere.

I used to have problems with Gravatar but now that Flip has mentioned the IE/Chrome thing I understand now why it suddenly started working for me lol..

I wish it would start working again though.. I want rid of this Halloween avatar :| people are gonna start thinking i'm nuts!!

Thanks flip that seems to pinpoint it although I'm reluctant for no logical reason, to muck about with my browser. I've picked the one I used last year (I mean who's going to remember anyway) but it hasn't changed so what DT says still seems to be the case.

DT, just to clarify, I was talking about Prudies problem with not being able to crop her photo using Gravatar, nothing about the problems people are having on AB, with not being able to change their pics.

Sorry, DT... just read that back and it sounded like I was being arsey! Lol. I wasn't, I was just trying to explain what I was on about, in case people were confused.. :-)
I had a nice evening, thanks. Was a bit bored at one point, but found a good book and went up to bed. Kids home this morning, so it's been nice and noisy... back to normal, basically :D
