Windows updates for XP- danger?

I use Adobe Premiere to edit video and the software has developed a bug which occurs when I try and use the drag option. It crashes and I have to restart. This is a new problem- the software has been fine for years. I wonder if a Windows update is to blame for the sudden problem? What do you think? And if so, how do I remove the update, and is it okay to turn my future updates off? Thanks

Why not re-install Prem first.

Was one of the updates the optional Nvidia Graphics update (best to use Nvidias own driver updates in my experience) MS Nvidia has always caused me problems.

Or you could use Win Restore and go back to before the XP updates that you think cause the problem.

If there were multiple XP updates you will have to uninstall all of them and re-install them one by one and test Prem each time to see which one is causing the problem, thats if it is an XP update causing the problem.

You can turn off Auto updates and get XP to inform you that updates are ready but manually download and install them.

If it turns out that an XP update is causing the problem and its one of the "critical" ones then you may leave yourself open to problems. your choice

or Graphics drivers causing the crash.

Hi- what does over-resourced mean? I tried system restore and went back to the start of August (the last Windows update was 7th Sept) but it came back as there have been no changes to my computer!

It means it is already pretty busy running all sorts of background stuff.
The key is to know exactly what's running when you are using resource-hungry apps like Premiere.

Ooh okay. Well I have loads of stuff on my desk top which I don't use. Any idea how I can use a tool to tidy that up?

No .. It's the background processes you need to watch .. Some are shown by icons in the system tray (by clock)
Look at all of those and see what you can reduce in their respective program settings.
Most of what people install does NOT need to run all the time (including Messenger, Skype, Photo software and the like .. especially Antivirus system background tools.
I have plenty on this PC .. and a total of 4 icons in system tray.
