windows cannot check for updates!!!!!!

how can i rectify this pls.

Try resetting Windows Update Components by running Microsoft Fixit:

I'm stuck on vista service pack 1. have tried before to update to sp2 to allow me to bring everything up to date including IE but to no avail.

think i'll have another go!

You should repair your installed updates first before you try again. If you type troubleshooting in the search bar when you open start it will open the troubleshooting section in control panel then scroll down to fix windows updates click on it and then follow the prompts to start the check and repair if required.

Googled the troubleshoot thing. the auto fixer sorted 2 problems but I still can't install sp2!
