Download assisstance required

Can anyone tell me why i cant download anything.I click download and a box comes up so i click save file,then a small box pops up in bottom right saying download complete and top left a box says downloaded files but there is nothing there.I was using this about 5wks ago with no problem but not working now.I am not very technical minded and my husband only knows the basics.Thanks in ad vance for any help.

You don't say which browser, but normally if you right click you download complete message you can select open target folder (or similar) and it will take you to where the file was downloaded...
Other than that, either search for the file name, or say which browser you use and somebody will say how to locate the download path.

Click on Tools > Options.
If the 'General' tab isn't already selected, click on it.
In the 'Downloads' section, you'll probably see that 'Save files to' has a dot alogside (showing that the option is selected). Alongside there you'll see the name of the folder where your downloads have been going to. It's probably simply called 'Downloads', and located within 'My Documents'. (That's the default option if you've not chosen somewhere else).
So, to find your missing downloads, open 'My Documents' and then double-click on 'Downloads'.
More importantly though, deselect 'Save files to' by clicking on the button next to 'Always ask me where to save files', and then click 'OK'
