I used to have a piece of software that only worked on XP that would record to a mp3 file what you where hearing through the speakers on your PC.
Is there a freeware program to try out that will to do this on Windows 7 Home.
I have a Soundblaster Live card on a desktop PC.

Perhaps my question was badly worded I still cant see how to do it..
I can record line in or microphone OK from a Cassette Player using Audacity but the only recording device shown in Windows is Microphone.
When I was using XP I could select as an input device "What you hear" on the menu as well as line in or microphone on the Soundblaster mixer menu.
If I am playing something on You Tube through Internet Explorer for example how do you record it ? The source is the computer itself ?
Since Windows 7 I havent seen this option. I dare not go back to an old version of a Soundblaster Driver.

Thank You the Empro software does exactly that. What you hear.
It is a 30 day trial
Seems to work fine but no control over input but just what I needed
Empro is free. after it expires you just need to visit the site and get the new version. then you have another 30 days. I will continue to improve it and update it every month. you don't need to buy it, just remember to get upgraded when it expires. if you find any problem or have any suggestion with this software, please let me know. my email is [email protected]

Thanks for using Empro
Question Author
Thank you for letting me know that, very helpful.
Some indication of the sound level input was the only thing I would like although it seems to automatically set itself OK.
Thank for the feedback. i will consider it in the future release. Empro has a build-in gain adjustment. it normlize the recorded sound automatically.
