I had mcafee for a month and when that ran out i used avg which will run out in three days leaving me open to attack.
I asked a friend which one was better to buy and they replied that you can get free protection on the internet, is this true if so which ones?
Are the free ones better then the above mentioned ones or is it better to pay for a subscription? Are some better then others as i would like full protection.
I have a Sony Vaio if that helps.

Just had a read around and free malwarebytes and microsoft security essentials have been recommended to those asking similar questions to mine.
Where is the best place to download the latest versions of these and would i need to uninstall the avg before downloading, iof so how?
Agree, if you have AVG installed, and are happy with it, then download it & malwarebytes (free), and carry onsafely.

Thank you all very much, just one more question.
How and in which order do i download, run and disable?
Do i download mse and malwarebytes first, turn the internet off then disable the avg before running or activation the malwarebytes and mse before switching the internet back on?

Question Author
What would happen if i installed malwarebytes and mse without deactivating avg?

Just to make something clear....

Malwarebytes does NOT replace any anti-virus software, you install malwarebytes as well as you normal antivirus software.

You should be able to remove AVG using add remove programs or programs and features (depending on windows version) in the control panel, if you can't remove it from there then you can download the appropiate AVG removal tool and use that to remove it.

http://www.avg.com/ww-en/utilities

Once AVG is removed you can install whichever free AV you go for (I recommend Microsoft security essentials these days)

Thanks headwreck, i found it but the malwarebytes link you've put up says License: Shareware $24.95? Isn't it free or am i looking at something else?
