Can you keep the same mobile phone number if you change mobile phone service providers?

yes, i've only had one number!

your current provider will give you a 'portal code' and you give this to your new provider!
Normally you can. You need to get a PAK code (think that's the name) from your current provider to give to your new one.
Yes. Initially all providers had their own range of numbers, but then the rules changed and they were obliged to allow numbers to be transferred.

Thanks for the prompt answers. I`m looking for a new phone and have been with Orange for years with the same no. You used not to be able to take the number with you so if I can that`s great and gives me more flexibility. Thanks again.

I changed my fathers phone from 02 to orange as a friend had an old prepay phone on orange.
My father passed away on December 7th and the contract expired mid January.
I listen to the message service about twice a week and often somebody has rang who does not know Dad has passed away.
These calls will die out at some point but it is a cheap way to keep the line open.
