I'm sick of taking my pc to the local dealer to get cleaned up so when it kept crashing on tuesday i decided to reinstall windows xp family edition myself. i've now managed to do this and downloaded service pack 2. i thought there shoudl be other updates that i needed, from memory the "add/remove programs" section on cotnrol panel had quite a lot of "hotfixes" listed, but when i go onto "windows update" it is saying there are no critical updates available for me, is that right?
It's possible the automatic updates function downloaded all the required updates at the same time as SP2. If Windows Update says there are no more, then I expect there are no more.
In WindowsXP SP2, Add/Remove programs no longer shows any hotfixes by default, you have to click in the checkbox near the top that says "show updates" in order to see hotfixes and patches.
You may already be aware of this of course, but it could be that you've missed it. If so, try clicking in it, and then you should be able to see all the various hotfixes on your system.
