i used to use zone alarm and it was good but clashed with my xbox live when updated so i had to change.

i moved to sygate firewall which is also free and i think it is slightly better and more thorough than zone alarm.

Sorry - not an answer, but another question: I am curious as to why any security system should be free.  What's the angle and how can you trust it? I bought a MacAvee security centre when I bought my PC.  I have assumed this was for good. This is anti-virus, anti-spam and a firewall.  Now I find ABers talking about a free one which must be a download installation.  How does anyone know the firewall is good for keeping out 'nasties'?  I would be grateful if you could enlighten me, please.   Thanks.

I was recommended AVG for anti-virus by 4 different sources: a chum who is a computer chappie, the sunday times, the daily telegraph, and a local computer shop. It is free to download and easy to use. However, if you have a problem you need to buy it to get support. However, the pro version is cheaper than Norton or Macafee. I get updates every day. Zonealarm is recommende by CompuerActive magazine, I've had zonealarm for years. AVG anti virus, AntiVir anti virus, AdAwareSE, PopUp Killer... all worth it.. and free

Sounds good!  Wish I had known about it before I bought, esp. as my MacAvee package doen't do Adware filtering.  Ah, well.
