dell printer cartridges

I have quite an old but perfectly useable Dell photo 924 printer - am being told my black cartridge is very low - question is, as cartridges bought from Dell are very expensive (and I do very little printing) does anyone have any feedback on how reliable the 'genuine Dell cartridges' advertised on line are? Thank you.
