My old Epson printer has finally given up the ghost and I now would like to replace it with one that will do general document printing, copying, scanning and produce decent photos (I'm a novice digital camera owner). Can anyone recommend one around 100 and if possible advise about running costs, (namely ink cartridges, etc.) I'm becoming bug-eyed scouring websites and comparing those that might fit the bill so I'd be most grateful for any helpful suggestions.

Its a personal choice, but I recently got an Epson CX3600, does all you need and also acts as a stand alone copier without the computer being on :-) as regards cartridges it has 4 individual ones, but if you are prepared to invest in compatible cartridges as opposed to branded ones, you can get some very good deals, I recently got 3 sets of the 4 cartridges for approx 12 and they work perfectly well.
Dont know where you are based, but Comet do a good deal on-line for these (they do charge more in the shop though as my father also got one as he was a bit wary of online transactions),Heres a link anyway

Thanks for that alunrw. This one is actually on my (long) short list as I read  a favourable review for it somewhere. If I do buy it I hope you won't mind my consulting you if I come across any problems with it? The cartridge deal sounds good too. Thanks again. Most appreciated.
My dad recently bought a Canon Pixma iP4000 - produces brilliant quality pictures and I don't  think it's much more than 100.
Hi Emily, no problem at all, feel free to ask if you have any queries.
