sim cards?

want to buy a mobile phone and have noticed that some are 'sim free'..what exactly does this mean? Does it mean I can put in the sim from my existing phone and keep the number, or simply that it doesn't need a card? DUH!

It means the phone is supplied without a sim card - so you can use your existing one and keep your number.

The only snag would be if it is 'sim free' but still locked to a specific network - then you would need to get it 'unlocked' if your existing sim was from a different mobile network.

Thanks sd...phone I want is NOKIA and my current sim is an 02 (had it ages)on the tesco network? Aaagh... all i want to do is make a few calls... how do you suggest I untangle, if it's possible? many thanks

Who are you buying the Nokia from ?

Just check that the Amazon listing says :

"This is a UK Sim-Free Phone"

You should be fine with your o2/Tesco sim then.
