Huzzah - just a little while ago, the Olympic torch went right past where I live http://i48.tinypic.com/midgsy.jpg - isn't that exciting! (and no, I have no idea who he is)

I'm appalled at the lack of crowds on the pavements, did anyone know it was coming?
hello bibblebub.
i am delighted that you have enjoyed the visit to your street by the torch.....a day to remember

my sunday last week with the torch (see my original post) was very memorable, and i shall always be proud that i was a part of a very special day.
Yesterday we stood for nearly an hour in pouring rain and it was over in no time. Was it worth it .Probably.

Of course they did, tenrec, there were lots of people other than at that part of the road. And that would have been apparent if I had succeeded in uploading a quick video.
Im gobsmacked it doesn't appear to be raining, or even wet there Bibble!
Glad to hear that bibble.

It's been overcast for most of the day, B00, but fortunately no rain so far.
it's coming right past my house tomorrow...and i shall not be getting out of my pit to watch it at 6am. i've seen enough of it on the telly!

I must admit, lcg76, that watching someone running past for a few seconds is not the most exciting way of spending one's time. It might be ok if one goes to where lots are gathered but on the route between such places it's not really worth the effort.
I wouldn't argue with that policewoman on the right.
Great picture and one of the first people i've seen properly run with it.
One of the people who carried the torch locally is going into th elrimary school next week and the kids can have their photo taken with him and his copy of the torch for £2 (half of the money raised is going to the church boiler fund).
an excellent idea, sherrardk.

hope lots of money is raised.
The best thing to do is to walk along the route until you find an awaiting torch bearer. Stand near them and watch the changeover. That adds to the experience and makes it slightly more than a fleeting moment.
I don`t think we`re getting the torch this way but I went past Hampton Court Palace today and there are lots of structures going up for the cycle race. A bridge (although that might have been there since the flower show) a covered, tierd seating area and a large parking area. They`ve even flattened the roundabout and build a better one. I`ll miss the whole thing as I`m working but it would have been nice to have gone along for a nosey.
Blimey, he's tall isn't he!

Maidup - there was a changeover when the runner was about 100 yards past my viewpoint but I was unaware of that (I was stood immediately outside my building and had been indoors for the previous hour). If I had known then I would have gone and stood there for some better pictures.
When it came through our place it was pouring, but we still managed to overspill the pavements. Where are your crowds?
Question Author
Shall I send you their phone numbers, Hopkirk, so that you can ask them?
We saw it when it came through Torbay. Where we stood there were several people, but not many, however in Torquay, a friend couldn't see anything as the crown surged forward to see the changeover. I think most people gather where the changeovers take place, so if you want to have a good view, don't stand there.
