I got one in my own name at mail.com. (no chance of getting your name at hotmail and the like)

However I haven't used it, as the free service won't work with Outlook Express.

Dont get a hotmail one as they are gradually replacing it with Outlook ones.

I have never used Hotmail so am Not in a position to pass any judgement of it. However, I would advise anyone now setting up an E/mail Account to avoid Hotmail for the reason given by VHG........."Dont get a Hotmail one as they are gradually replacing it with Outlook ones."

Microsoft have acquired Hotmail and, whilst I note what kevmark has said, Outlook.com is being scheduled to fully replace Hotmail. Consequently, as Hotmail is unlikey to be around for more than a few years, it makes sense to get something more up-to-date such as Gmail or Outlook.

I am now wondering how long I can expect Microsoft to retain Windows Mail, which I use.

Microsoft have always owned hotmail, all they are doing is re-branding it to outlook.
