On starting my computer I have to wait ages for all sorts of bits and bobs to load up, most of it rarely used, some of it hardly ever at all !  Without going into cotrol panel and uninstalling things, is there a way I can dictate what starts up or becomes active upon switch on so as to get on the web sooner (easyer)

Thanks in advance for any help, I's driving me daft !

Firstly check which unwanted applications are in your Startup folder (found via the Start button → All Programs) and delete any unwelcome links.

You can also download a Startup Manager for more overall control. Look on Google

A free program that does the same thing is StartupCPL which can be found at http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

It sits in your control panel and allows you to control any programs that run on startup, even if they're just listed in the registry.

Alternatively, without having to download anything, if you click Start, then Run, type msconfig , all the programs that run at startup can be controlled from here also. Read http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ for more information on this.
