Digital TV and Freeview

My 82 year old Aunt purchased a freeview box with digital recorder this week and asked me to set it all up. At home Mr Spudqueen does all that sort of stuff, so I was a bit in the dark. Anyway, I unplugged the already existing freeview box and finally got it set up so that the freeview box was working, but I couldn't get any signal on the TV. She said that it had said 'no signal' with the old freeview box, but she was adamant that it should work as it's a digital TV. It was only when I got home that I started wondering if digital TVs and TVs with built in freeview are the same thing or not. Can anyone enlighten me?

Most - BUT NOT ALL - TVs made/sold in the last few years have freeview box already inside them

Ah there you've got me. It's a Bush freeview box (from Argos), but the TV I'm afraid I don't know.

Has anyone considered that the aerial may not be up to the job? Hence....."no signal"

Yes, she does have another tele, I'll try that this week when I go and visit her. Thanks everyone

You have probably got to select which input signal you want using the TV's remote control.

Your choices may be AV1 or AV2. It will depend which scart socket you've plugged the Freeview box/recorder into at the back of the TV.
