Can anyone recommend a good one?

I'm happy to spend up to £250, as it's for Mr P's 30th birthday. (Yes, I'm really stuck for what to get him.)

There seem to be so many about!

I got one of these 'managers specials' - it was effectively brand, spanking new with all the latest software loaded.

Don`t bother with LG. I`ve one of those and I`ve had quite a lot of problems with it. I needed multi-region so I was a bit limited in choice. Humax and Panasonic are good.
Yep Humax. We have one, and both our sons have one

That's brilliant, Dave. And I'll save a bit of money too!

Would you mind giving me the link for the dongle please?

Thanks, dave.

I'm sure Santa will reward you!
>>>you just need a cheap wireless dongle

But if you already have broadband and a wi fi router do you need a dongle?

I would assume you can connect to your own router.
The dongle is to connect the Humax box to the home router - there is no built in wifi connection in the Humax box.

You could run a lan cable (or use powerline adapters) but the wifi adapter is so cheap it hardly seems worth looking at any other solution.
On further research it seems the Humax has an ethernet port but its not wi fi ready. So I assume this dongle turns it into a wi fi device.

I note the edimax you link to on amazon looks rather old and only does "G" wi fi, whereas most routers and laptops are now "N".

Here is a newer one that is "N" (a little more expensive)

Errrm, read Daves link again, VHG

OK, it's only 150Mp/s wireless n, but that far faster than anyone's internet connection so no reason to get a 300Mb/s one.
... and I know that the one I linked to definitely works - used it yesterday in fact :)

I just wanted to thank you again, dave. I've ordered it and the dongle you recommended and it should be here sometime next week.

I'm sure Mr P will be chuffed. xx
