Viewing JPEG & GIF

Whenever I want to view a picture my computer lunches Internet Explorer in order to view it. Is there a free download software I can use?

Try right clicking on the picture file then 'Open With' and select the programme you want to use to view the file.

If you want to use the same programme to open all your files e.g. .jpeg, open 'My Computer' then click on Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types.

Scroll down to the file type you want e.g. JPEG and click on it. You should see a section below that reads 'Details for JPEG extension' 'Opens with ..... (programme name).

Click on 'Change' and select the programme you want to use in future to open these files. Click OK and that should be that.

what's wrong with using internet explorer for viewing images? it does the job pretty well doesn't it?

There is a free software package you can download to view and manage your pictures.

secretsquiz there's nothing wrong with viewing pictures in Internet Explorer, it just does' offer much flexibility in real time zoom.

On my hi tech state of the art PC (haha!) if I right click on an image, one option I see is "Preview" which will show it in Windows' resident basic image viewer.
Alternatively, if you're after an imaeg editor which will zoom (amongst lots of other features) you could try the link (above) to Irfanview.

Personally, I really like Paint Shop Pro, I find it quick to load and very very easy to use.
