Ad-aware 6.0

Hello there i have just down loaded Ad-aware 6.0 free version. What i was wondering is have i got to do anything to it for example run it every week. Or does it do it for me automatic i have got the icon of this software on my desktop. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the free 'Personal SE' version which is version 1.06r1 ?

I would recommend running at least once a week. More frequently if you are a 'heavy'  Internet surfer. I do a 'Custom' scan of my main hard drive most days and a 'Deep' scan once a week.

All that is necessary is to check for updates before you run. I only bother quarantining 'Critical' objects.

Not a silly question at all, Richard. I would also recommend downloading the latest versions (both free) of Spybot...

Spybot is quicker than Ad-Aware, but maybe not quite so thorough. If you run one after the other, one should catch anything the other misses.

The beauty of SpywareBlaster is that it works on the idea of prevention rather than cure, and stops most spyware downloading itself onto your computer in the first place (and unlike the others, you only have to set it up once and it will then look after your machine automatically). This should then make the job of Ad-Aware/Spybot much easier - they haven't found much on my computer since I installed SpywareBlaster.

Personally I run my Adaware after every internet session,that way you don`t get a build of cookies etc on your PC.The adaware won`t work automatically,you have to instigate the process.Also,anytime you are on the net,check for updates.You could also do worse than check Microsoft`s new,free anti spyware,which I have installed and it seems to be even better than Lavasoft.
