I've googled but makes no sense to me, how can I click on an image and save it to desktop, just cannot seem to make sense of any of it! and how do I turn it off at night just cannot find the close button! In very simple terms please and thank you very much!
To turn IE10 off use Control Panel (you can right-click on bottom left corner to being up the menu that includes it) and then select Programs>Programs and Features>Turn Windows features on and off. In that list, IE10 is the 5th item down (for me).
No I haVE NO PROBLEMS WITH TAPING OR WATCHING DVDS, i CAN HANDLE THAT, IT IS A LIVE TV PROGRAMME (oops sorry wasn't shouting but can't retype it all) and this is a desktop windows xp I am on!! atm!
Took receipt of a new laptop on 3rd Jan, netibiza.
I enjoy the look of windows 8. I will not pretend I am totally au fait with the system as yet. Some things irritate. still, like dragging my finger across the touchpad often seems to activate something when I dont want it too; My browser often reverts to a full screen mode and I struggle to bring it back sometimes, and I am still not sure about hiding windows away in the top LH corner of the screen - nor do I fully understand these "snap left" and "snap right" things - but generally, I do like it.
yes through filmon.com, it works fine on netbook (win xp) and this desktop win xp. And at the moment, the whole thing has seized up cos it was trying to show me how to swipe on a tactile screen but as it is a laptop I tried to disable it and now I'm trying to restart it, cursor got stuck, but have absolutely no idea what is happening, hate it, hate it, hate it!
well I cannot find IE anywhere in progs, and the mouse pad isn't working but an external mouse (usb) is working fine. How can I find which browser I am using?
Updatre! The whole kit and caboodle crashed so it then reinstalled itself, and am back on IE, so am leaving it that way, seems to be working OK at the momento. I now know how to turn it off thanks to you lot, and will try my desktop shortcuts son, am leaving like this, too much hassle although I musch prefer Firefox!
Another way to turn it off is to put your cursor in the bottom left corner and when you see the red 'start' pop up, right click then click power options.
The 'charms' are fantastic. Get to know your way round them. Everything is controlled from there
Thank you hc that is very useful and informative but I now have a headache, I seem to have so many "charms" on my screen, and do not know what most of them are, I know the desktop, mail and few others, so will have to take my time at work at it! I wold rather had a new cooker for xmas than this computer!!!!
Tiles are the square icons on your start screen that open the program when you click on it. These can easily be removed by right clicking on a tile and looking at the options that appear at the bottom of the screen.
Don't do anything hasty, though :)
Charms is the tool bar that appears when you hover at the right side of the screen - search, share, start, devices, settings. Settings is similar to the old Control Panel and My Computer.
"there is no start up etc"
There is if you install Start8 as mentioned in my link above. You can also configure it to take you straight to you normal desktop as soon as you log in.
