I have a HP G60 laptop and for some reason the CD/DVD optical drive has stopped working. When you put a CD into the drive it starts as though it is reading the disc but then nothing seems to happen. Normally it would automatically start up Windows media Player and begin playback.
Please help..!!!
Cheapest thing would be to delete the drive from the system page and let the PC find the hardware again, and reinstall what it needs. That said my suspicion would be a drive that's gone to meet it's maker.
One thought, this opening up something on disk insertion is a fairly new thing and can be set up to do that for the type of disk you insert. For example a music disk may open Media Player. Is the CD you're putting in a music disk ? It may pay you to check the disk type you are inserting is not set to just load and do nothing.
If you look at the disk using explorer, do you see all the files etc. ?
Just been reading through some older questions on here asking about the same problem. It prompted me to check that the drive was showing in My Computer, unfortunately it isn't so i'm guessing there is a connection issue.
I've never bought a laptop but suspect changing drives in one would be a lot more fiddley than it is on a desktop. On a desktop is fairly simple but in your shoes I'd take methyl's advice and go let the professionals look at it.
