Bt Broadband Package
15 Answers
I have decided to leave Virgin Media and go with BT, and I would like to know how difficult it would be(for a numpty) to connect everything up. I will be getting broadband, a vision box, home hub(whatever that is) wi-fi + Tv and telephone -yikes! I am panicking just thinking about it. A technician would come and do it but it would be £90. Would it be possible to do it or should I bite the bullet and pay? Hope someone can advise - rosy

The engineer tinkered about in the box at the end of our road, then came to my house and set it all up and checked my laptop. I didn't have to do anything. I have to pay £6.95 delivery for the home hub, broadband is free for 3 months then £13 per month for 18months, we have BT phone so we pay for the landline anyway. Typical. when I cancelled 02 they offered me a deal of £4.50 per month to stay with them.
Thank you for your replies. I seem to have a similar deal to you, askyourgran, I paid the £6.95 + £49 activation charge, didn't you have to pay that? They are putting the landline in free of charge, usually £130, as we had a virgin line, broadband is half price for six months, (£6.50) TV and Humax recorder, anytime phone calls £5.15 and we are still paying less than with Virgin, where we only had Broadband and phone, (no TV). I did ring Virgin to get a better deal, but no can do, and when I mentioned that my daughter paid less than me with BT for the whole caboodle their reply was - 'Yes but we are Virgin media not BT' - we have been them for years too!!
It is probably too late to yadda yadda woofgang as I have accepted the deal now, so I hope I get a friendly engineer, but I rang them today and she did say it would be £90 if I wanted them to install everything. Swings and roundabouts really, isn't it? I will have a go, I'm sure the friendly techies on AB will help me out if I get stuck :0) -rosy

That's your experience, unsureme, but it's certainly not mine. We are with BT Broadband and there are no hidden extras, it's all very clearly laid out. We paid £50, rosyposy, for the engineer to update our home hub recently (I wouldn't attempt to do it myself), he checked it all out for us too and left it running perfectly. I've been with BT for several years and I am extremely pleased with it.
I can't agree with Unsureme and concur with boxtops and woofgang. I am delighted with the service which I get from BT and, whilst its 'call centre' is in India, the staff are very very helpful if you have a problem.
When everything is up and running, you'll be wondering why originally you didn't opt for BT Broadband.

Thank you too, alston. I received my invoice today and it is exactly what it said on the tin -no hidden extras that I can see and (whispers) they seem to have given me the broadband free for 6months instead of half price :o) I didn't realise their call centre is in India and I must say when I rang them yesterday I got thro' immediately, if that had been Virgin I would still be here pressing buttons!! Thank you to you all -rosy
I don't use BT but I'm glad that some people accept the old maxim of 'you get what you pay for'. This site has many posts from people who use 'cheapo' services and then wonder why their Youtube videos are constantly buffering or why their connection keeps dropping and so-called 'support' staff can't offer any help.
